Diablo 4: New season start date, new content

Blizzard Entertainment has revealed that the first season of Diablo 4 will be called "Season of the Malignant." Each season of the action role-playing game introduces new content and some special mechanics that add temporary spice to the gameplay.

Season of Marignant will center on a new storyline focusing on Marignant's curse. This season introduces a new enemy type, vicious creatures. They're basically elite buffs, and beating them triggers a small event that attracts more elites. Winning this challenge will reward you with 32 unique gems. These special gems are somewhat similar to Diablo 3 Legendary Gems, and have powerful bonuses, but can only be placed in certain colored gem slots on items. During the season, you can collect gems in the special area "Vicious Tunnel".

Bosses, aspects, and unique items will appear not only in seasonal content, but also in permanent content. If you clear the story with season-limited characters, you can get new rewards such as limited aspects.

It wouldn't be a video game season without the Battle Pass: This bonus track comes in both free and premium versions. The free version includes cosmetics and a resource called "Ashes," which allow players to boost seasonal characters' XP earnings, elixir duration, and other stats as part of a new progression system. Blizzard says the paid battle pass will only include cosmetics, not game-related rewards.
